Thompson Votes in Support of Continuing Resolution, Funding for Battle Against Zika and Drug Epidemic

WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Rep Glenn ‘GT’ Thompson (PA-5) has voted in favor of the Fiscal Year 2017 Continuing Resolution, Zika Response, and Military Construction and Veterans Affairs Funding Legislation, which passed by a vote of 342 to 85.

The bill includes a short-term appropriations measure, known as a Continuing Resolution (CR), in addition to funding to fight the Zika virus, help address the nation’s prescription opioid and heroin epidemic, and resources to assist America’s service members and veterans.

The bill ensures the government will continue to fully operate through Dec. 9, 2016.  After the vote, Thompson released the following statement:

“[The] vote ensures that the Department of Veteran’s Affairs and military construction projects are funded through the next Fiscal Year, remaining federal operations through December, while also providing assistance to communities devastated by flooding and areas battling the Zika virus.

“The bill also directs funding to the Departments of Justice and Health and Human Services to begin enacting the Comprehensive Addiction and Recovery Act, which will help communities dealing with the heroin and opioid epidemic.”
