KARTHAUS – A Karthaus woman was killed in a riding lawnmower accident at her residence Thursday evening, reported Clearfield County Coroner Mike Morris.
According to Morris, Sandy Maney was cutting grass on a steep hill. She lost control of the mower and apparently was thrown from it after striking a landscape retaining wall.
“[It] caused the mower to become airborne,” he said, “and [it] came to rest on her upper body.” Maney was pronounced dead at the scene by Deputy Coroner Mike Polachek.
The cause of her death was determined to be positional asphyxiation. The time of her death was at approximately 5 p.m., according to Morris.
The coroner’s office was assisted by Karthaus and Pine Glen fire companies and Moshannon Valley EMS. The Strange & Weaver Funeral Home of Morrisdale is serving the family.
