Nelson E. Flack, 86, of Philipsburg died Saturday, Sept. 17, 2016 at his home.

Born Aug. 12, 1930 in Julian, he was a son of the late John S. Flack and Elizabeth R. (Andrews) Flack.

Mr. Flack was a 1949 graduate of Philipsburg High School. He retired from Charles Navasky & Co. after more than 30 years of service.

Previously, he was employed by Baltimore Life Insurance as an agent and Day & Zimmerman, power line construction.

He was an avid golfer and sports fan, especially of the Pirates, Steelers and Penn State.

He was a member of Grace United Methodist Church, Philipsburg, where he was a trustee and member of the Administrative Board.

Mr. Flack was a member of the Philipsburg F&AM Blue Lodge No. 391 for more than 50 years.

He was a life member of the Hope Fire Company and a former member of the Philipsburg Country Club.

He served on the board of the Philipsburg Cemetery Association and was a member of the zoning board for the Philipsburg Borough for a number of years. In his younger years, he coached Little League and Teener League.

On Dec. 4, 1953 at Grace United Methodist Church, Philipsburg by the Rev. Chauncey J. Varner, he married his high school sweetheart, Janet J. Shaw, who survives.

He is also survived by several cousins; in-laws with whom he was very close, Elaine Wisor, Ronald Shaw and Harold Shaw; his nieces and nephews whom he dearly loved; and special friends, Don and Charlene Dinant.

He was preceded in death by his parents and an aunt for whom he was a caretaker for many years.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Sept. 24 at the David K. Dahlgren Funeral Home, 228 N. Centre St., Philipsburg, with retired Pastor Mark Thumma officiating. Burial will be in the Philipsburg Cemetery.

Friends will be received from 2 p.m. – 4 p.m. and from 6 p.m. – 8 p.m. Sept. 23 at the funeral home.
