Clearfield Elks Announce Availability of Scholarship Applications

CLEARFIELD – The Clearfield Elks Lodge No. 540 has announced the availability of scholarship programs funded by the Elks National Foundation.

The most valuable student scholarship provides scholarships, ranging from $1,000 to $12,500 per year for students pursuing a four-year degree at a U.S .American college or university on a full-time basis.

One-time grants are also available from The Pennsylvania Elks State Association funded by the Elks National Foundation. Male and female students compete separately.

The applications are due on Nov. 30 at the Clearfield Elks Lodge, and will be judged on scholarship, leadership and financial need. They should be obtained online www.elks.org/enf/scholars.

Students may check with their guidance counselor for additional information. Nationally $2.44 million dollars will be allocated for 500 recipients this year.

This scholarship is only available to high school seniors who have taken ACT and or SAT by Nov. 5.

The Legacy Awards Scholarship will provide a $1,000 scholarship annually for four years to 250 students nationally for the children or grandchildren (or step-children, step-grandchildren or legal wards) of Elks who have been members in good standing for at least two years.

The applicants will be judged on the core values of the Elks National Foundation which are: Knowledge, Charity, Community, and Integrity without consideration of financial need.

Legacy Award applications are available online only at www.elks.org/enf/scholars. The applicants must take their SAT or ACT by Dec. 31, and applications must be submitted online by noon Feb. 3, 2017.This scholarship is only available to high school seniors.

Seniors at the Clearfield and Curwensville High Schools were awarded $6,000 from the two above described scholarship programs at the close of the 2015-16 school year. This year’s seniors are encouraged to apply.

Emergency Educational Grants are also available to provide financial assistance to children, from families where an Elk parent is deceased or totally disabled, who wish to obtain or further their college education.

The applicant must be unmarried, under the age of 23, and attending an accredited U.S. college or university.  Financial need must be demonstrated for this renewable one year grant which can total up to $4,000 per year.
