CLARION – Troopers investigating the death of a missing 13-year-old Clarion girl have determined that she was the victim of an accidental drowning.

An autopsy conducted today revealed that the girl had drowned; there isn’t any foul play suspected in her death, state police said.

Shevy Lynn McGiffin left her home on foot at approximately 7:15 p.m. Friday to go to the Dollar General Store on South Fifth Avenue, Clarion Township, and she failed to return.

Investigators determined that she had, in fact, been inside the store shortly before her disappearance, and an extensive search was conducted to locate her.

At 3:50 p.m. Sunday, members of the Clarion Volunteer Fire Department discovered McGiffin’s body in Trout Run near the Clarion River, and the Pennsylvania State Police immediately began investigating the cause of her death.

Trout Run flows between the McGiffin’s residence and the South Fifth Avenue Dollar General Store, state police said in the report.
