Clearfield Marks Anniversary of 9/11 with Memorial Ceremony

CLEARFIELD – On Sunday morning, a small community memorial ceremony at the Clearfield County Courthouse marked the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks on America.

Fifteen years ago today, America was changed forever when airliners crashed into the Twin Towers in New York City at 8:46 a.m. and 9:03 a.m.; the Pentagon in Washington, D.C., at 9:37 a.m.; and a field outside of Shanksville, Pa., at 10:03 a.m.

After a bell was rung four times, a memorial wreath of red, white and blue flowers with a patriotic ribbon was presented by Clearfield Police Chief Vincent McGinnis and Coroner Mike Morris. It was placed at the base of the Sept. 11 memorial stone.

The county’s memorial flag was also raised during the ceremony by Clearfield Commissioners John A. Sobel, Tony Scotto and Mark B. McCracken. Flags were lowered at the conclusion of the ceremony and will fly today at half-staff.

The memorial ceremony was held by members of the Clearfield Volunteer Fire Department to honor service men and women and fellow first responders.
