Obituary Notice: William J. McCartney Sr.

William J. McCartney Sr., 92, of Grampian died Tuesday, Aug. 30, 2016 at Penn Highlands Clearfield.  He was born Nov. 28, 1923 in Walltown, a son of the late Thomas and Dellaphine (Clark) McCartney.

Mr. McCartney retired from the Iron Workers Union No. 772.  He loved the outdoors and was an avid hunter and fisherman.  Above all, he truly loved his family.

He was a member of the St. Bonaventure Catholic Church, Grampian.

He was also a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie No. 812, Clearfield, and the VFW Post 842, Curwensville.

A veteran of the U.S. Army, Mr. McCartney served his country during World War II.

He is survived by his wife, Tillie (Mathews) McCartney, to whom he was wed Aug. 17, 1948.

He is survived by four children, William McCartney Jr. and his wife, Edie of Treasure Lake, Bruce McCartney and his wife, Gwen and LuAnn Aughenbaugh and her husband, James, all of Curwensville, and Keith McCartney and his wife, Lisa of DuBois.

He is survived by eight grandchildren, Jerry McCartney and his wife, Tina, Mike McCartney and his wife, Heather, Amanda Harris and her husband, Dan, Amy McCartney and her fiancé, Travis Bressler, Alicia Holland and her husband, Rob, Travis Aughenbaugh and his wife, Dodie, Joshua McCartney and his wife, Becki and Nicole McCartney.

He is also survived by 21 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; his brothers and sisters, Robert McCartney and Doris, Richard McCartney and his wife, Janice, John McCartney and his wife, Bessie, Charles McCartney  and his wife, Mary, Mary Jane Crandell, Alice Del Grippo and her husband, Rocko, Margaret Proud, Patricia Shaw and her husband, Jan and Thomas McCartney and Sandy.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Charles Ray ‘Buddy’ McCartney in 1976; a great-grandson, Carter McCartney; a brother, Donald McCartney; and four sisters, Helen Guierro, Elizabeth Padgett and two infant.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be said at 11 a.m. Saturday at the St. Bonaventure Catholic Church, Grampian, with Father Mark J. Mastrian as celebrant. Burial will follow in the St. Bonaventure Cemetery, Grampian.

Friends will be received from 2 p.m. – 4 p.m. and from 6 p.m. – 8 p.m. Friday and from 9 a.m. – 10 a.m. Saturday at the Kevin A. Beardsley Funeral Home, Curwensville.

A Christian Vigil service will be held at 7:30 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
