Helen J. Hummel, 76, of Philipsburg died Monday, Aug. 29, 2016 at Juniper Village at Brookline, State College.

Born June 18, 1940 at Clearfield, she was a daughter of J. Clifford and Leah Mae (Williams) Murray.

She was a graduate of the Clearfield High School. She received a diploma in nursing from the Philipsburg Hospital School of Nursing.

She also received a Bachelor of Science in nursing from Indiana University of Pennsylvania, a Master’s degree in nursing from Penn State University and a Master’s degree in psychology from Indiana University of Pennsylvania.

She taught nursing at the former Philipsburg Hospital and then at Lock Haven University, Clearfield campus. She later became dean of campus for Lock Haven University, Clearfield campus, from which she retired.

She was a current and former member of various boards related to nursing and medicine. Aside from nursing, she enjoyed camping with the Rambling Turtles and going to Penn State sports; most of all, she loved to spoil her grandchildren.

On Feb. 2, 1962 in Woodland, she married Robert Lee “Bob” Hummel, who survives.

Also surviving are two daughters, Tammie Kephart and her husband, Brian of Beaver Falls and Cynthia Britten and her husband, Randolph Fitzgerald of Kodak, Tenn., and a son, Clifford Lee Hummel of Philipsburg.

Also surviving are five grandchildren, Nathaniel Kephart, Adam Kephart, Jessica Britten, Harley Hummel and James Hummel.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Todd Britten and two sisters, Lenora Mae DeBernardo and Alice Pearl Murray.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 25 at the Trinity United Methodist Church, 121 S. Front St., Philipsburg, with the Rev. Brenda K. Leigey officiating. Burial will be at Oak Grove Cemetery, Curwensville.
