Representative Tommy Sankey Named Guardian of Small Business

Record shows he voted to support small business 100 percent of the time

HARRISBURG — Members of Pennsylvania’s leading small business advocacy group, the National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB), has announced that Rep. Tommy Sankey had been named a Guardian of Small Business for his 100 percent voting record on behalf of Pennsylvania’s small businesses during the 2015-16 session of the General Assembly.

“Small-business owners pay close attention to how their lawmakers vote because they feel the impact of government policies,” said NFIB’s Legislative Director Neal Lesher.

“While many lawmakers claim to support small business, the NFIB voting record is actual proof that these lawmakers were true and consistent advocates for small business.  When Mom-and-Pop companies succeed, it leads to a stronger Pennsylvania and job creation.”

The Guardian of Small Business Award goes to Senators and Representatives who voted favorably on key small-business issues at least 75 percent of the time.

The voting record includes only votes on small-business issues, not all of the votes cast during the session.  The key issues include regulatory reform, tax measures, employer mandates and policies that help to enable small business growth.

NFIB thanks the 26 lawmakers who voted with small business 100 percent of the time. The full list of guardian award recipients will be released in the near future.

According to the Small Business Administration, Pennsylvania’s small businesses employed about half of all workers in the Commonwealth. Small businesses make up 98.3 percent of all employers in the state.  Their success is critical to the state and national economy.
