Man breaches airport security in Nebraska, hits plane

A man breached a security gate at a Nebraska airport, stole a truck on the runway and rammed it into a Southwest Airlines plane, an airline spokesman said.

The incident happened Thursday night while the plane was loading for takeoff at Eppley International Airport in Omaha, according to Chris Mainz, a spokesman for the airline.

“Several crew members suffered minor injuries while none of the 18 passengers on board were harmed,” the spokesman said in a statement.

The flight has been delayed and the plane taken out of rotation for further inspection.

The man who stole the truck is in police custody, Mainz said.

“We are replacing the crew and the aircraft, and the flight is expected to operate with an approximate three-hour delay,” he said.
