Ryan McCarvel smashed his eighth home run of the season, but the State College Spikes dropped a 4-2 decision to the Mahoning Valley Scrappers on Monday night at Eastwood Field. Despite the loss, the Spikes gained ground in the New York-Penn League Pinckney Division race as Auburn swept Williamsport in a doubleheader on Monday. State College’s magic number for a third division title in the last four years now sits at seven.
