For the first year since Act 13 of 2012 established impact fees, the total amount of fees paid by gas operators to Pennsylvania counties, municipalities and state agencies dropped below $200 million. The impact fees assessed on gas wells last year were paid by July 1, 2016 and totaled $187.7 million, down from the $223.5 million in 2015 and from $225.8 in 2014.
