CLEARFIELD — Despite periods of rain and threatening skies all weekend, the 22nd Annual Past Your Prime Modified Fast-Pitch Softball Tourney was held at Bucky Strunk Field, where co-Champions were crowned for the second time in tourney history.
The three time defending champion Bedford Over-the-Hillbillies and Bob Boob’s Garage were not able to play more than one inning in Sunday afternoon’s championship game, so both were declared champions.
Bedford reached the finals on Sunday with two walk-off wins Sunday morning. Down 7-6 to Siegel Engraving/Buster’s Sports Bar heading to the bottom of the seventh inning of the quarterfinals, the Hillbillies receiving an inning-opening walk and then a two-run homerun by “Hoss” ended the game. The Hillbillies were then able to top that by plating five runs in the bottom of the seventh inning of their semifinal matchup against Potter’s Bricklayers.
Bob Boob’s Garage eliminated Denny’s Beer Barrel Pub in the quarterfinals by a 7-4 score, then made short work of the Meatheads 11-0 in the semifinals.
Despite the rain-shortened tourney, tournament director Jerry Bickel deemed the weekend a success, as the Marine Corps League Toys for Tots will receive a hefty donation from the tournament proceeds.
