CLEARFIELD – Mary Moore attended the Clearfield County Career & Technology Center (CCCTC) during the 2015-16 school year.
She was enrolled in the welding program and also participated in the SkillsUSA district VII competition, where she took first place in the adult welding sculpture category.
During her time at CCCTC, she said that taking the welding program helped her by forcing her to step out of her comfort zone and try new things that she didn’t think she was capable of.
She explained that this gave her the confidence and helped her expand her job skills.
When asked what her favorite memory was at CCCTC, Moore said, “Not only did my instructor and classmates make me feel welcome, but the entire school did. I’ve never met a nicer group of people; they made being a non-traditional student easy and an experience I will never forget.”
The experience, confidence and hands-on training that Moore gained by attending the welding program helped her get her current position with Rescar Companies in DuBois. She is a railcar mechanic for a privately-held company that does maintenance on rolling stock.
She is only one example of how CCCTC graduates use their education to strengthen the industry in their field of study.
