Former Secretary of State Madeleine Albright said Wednesday that leaked emails from the Democratic National Committee were almost certainly perpetrated by the Russians and charged Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin are “on the same page.”
“It certainly seems that that’s what’s gone on,” Albright said about the Republican presidential nominee and the Russian president, on CNN’s “New Day,” adding that she is waiting for an official determination from the FBI.
“It’s like they’re on the same page, so there’s a lot of circumstantial evidence,” she added, validating the theory that Russians tried to influence US politics by hacking DNC mails. The episode raised questions about the DNC’s impartiality during the primary season and ultimately led to the ouster of DNC Chairwoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz.
“I do think that a Trump victory is a gift to Vladimir Putin,” Albright said, echoing a critical line she used in her Democratic National Convention speech Tuesday night.
