CLEARFIELD – Forms to enter one of the many exhibition departments at the 156th Clearfield County Fair are due by 4 p.m. Friday.
The Premium Book, which outlines all departments, competitions and rules, can be viewed in its entirety at www.clearfieldcountyfair.com.
A printable entry form is available on the fair Web site or entries can be submitted online. Exhibits are to be placed in their respective buildings on the Saturday and Sunday prior to the fair.
The Bee Kind Winery amateur wine competition has expanded to include an amateur beer competition. Also, new this year are the old-time scarecrow and Christmas tree decorating contests.
The Bee Kind amateur wine/beer competition is open to any amateur winemaker or amateur brewer who is 21 years of age or older and who is a resident of Pennsylvania. Categories for the wine contest are red, white, fruit or mead. Also included is the winemaker bottle label contest.
Categories for the homemade beer contest are ale-light, ale-amber, ale-dark, lagers-light, lagers-dark and specialty brews (fruit, spices). An entry fee applies for the amateur wine/beer competition.
The scarecrow decorating contest includes youth (age 17 years and under) and adult (age 18 years and up) divisions. Scarecrows must not exceed four feet in width and six feet in height. The material must be natural and characteristic of a scarecrow.
Each entry will be judged on originality and authenticity to a traditional cornfield or garden-type scarecrow as seen on early farms.
The Christmas tree decorating contest is open to any individual or group. The Fair & Park Board will provide the tree. Contestants are to provide all decorations, lights and a tree skirt. Trees may be decorated on Saturday, July 30 and Sunday, July 31.
There are many departments in which to enter, including livestock, vegetables, fruits and nuts, home and dairy, floral, needlecraft and arts, crafts and photography.
Baking/cooking contests include the PA Preferred baking, angel food and blue ribbon apple pie and the culinary contests, which feature Ethan’s Café amazing appetizers, Neeper’s Sweet Treats sticky buns, Fun Central kids cupcake decorating and King Arthur flour baking.
