HARRISBURG – Eight organizations and municipalities in the 34th Senatorial District have been awarded more than $6.9 million in state funding for projects that will provide new recreation opportunities for area residents and protect the environment, Senator Jake Corman announced Thursday.
Corman said the grants and loans were awarded by the Commonwealth Financing Authority (CFA). The projects approved for funding are a part of three different programs that are administered by the CFA, including the Multimodal Transportation Fund Program, Alternative and Clean Energy Program, and Greenways Trails & Recreation Program.
“Our region will benefit from this much-needed state funding for important public improvements to better serve area residents and businesses,” Stefano said. “These local projects will contribute to our local economy and improve the quality of life for those who live here.”
Projects that have received funding include:
State College Area School District, State College
- $1,875,947 grant for the renovation of the Houserville Elementary School into a high-performance building. The project is anticipated to reduce energy consumption and save water use by more than 40 percent.
- $1,960,440 grant for the renovation of the Radio Park Elementary School into a high-performance building. The project is anticipated to reduce energy consumption and save water use by more than 40 percent.
Borough of State College, State College
- $360,000 for the installation of streetlights in the central business district of State College Borough.
Pennsylvania Recreation and Park Society, State College
- $80,000 grant to develop a program for a community park maintenance plan for more than 5,600 recreational parks across the state.
Reinford Farms Inc, Mifflintown
- $1,007,000 grant for the expansion of an anaerobic digester at its farm in Walker Township, Juniata County.
Myron Gehman, Milfflintown
- $607,081 grant for the purchase and installation of an anaerobic digester at a farm in Delaware Township Juniata County.
Mifflin County Industrial Development Corporation PA, Lewistown
- $700,000 loan to assist with the development of the MCIDC Industrial Park West in Granville Township, Mifflin County. MCIDC plans to market the site to manufacturing and industrial businesses, creating up to 250 jobs.
Mifflin County, Lewistown
- $230,000 grant for the construction of Phase 1 of the Juniata River Trail located in Lewistown Borough, Mifflin County.
Centre Hall Borough, Centre Hall
- $120,000 grant to install sidewalks along West Church Street in Centre Hall Borough.
