Ellery W. Adams, 98, of Clearfield died Saturday, July 2, 2016 at the DuBois Nursing Home.

Mr. Adams was born Aug. 21, 1917, as the son of the late William Ellsworth Adams and Elva Mae (Gingery) Adams.

Mr. Adams enlisted in the U.S. Air Force. He served during World War II where he participated in the Eastern Flying Training.  He received his wings in navigating, bombardier-ing and gunning.

He loved woodworking and carpentry. He was a self-employed contractor. All of his families’ homes have some of his talent, love and hard work.

Mr. Adams was a member of the West Side United Methodist Church.

He was a lifetime member of the Hill Top Howlers Snow Mobile Club. He was also a member of the Clearfield VFW.

And, most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his family. His belief in the strength, unity and love of family cannot be measured; yet it is apparent daily in his surviving family members’ lives.

Surviving are two daughters, Virginia Mooney and her husband, Patrick of DuBois and Judith Adams of Penfield and two sons: Robert Adams and his wife, Gail of Clearfield and Jack Adams and his wife, Carol of Poughkeepsie, NY.

Also surviving are five grandchildren, Bridget Mooney and her husband, David, Jennifer Weniger and her husband, Fred, Renee Wallace and her husband, James, Charles Adams and his wife, Donna, and Elaine Krakower; 10 great-grandchildren, Jared, Jemma, Paige, Lauren, Fred, James, Robert, Karak, Troy and Ava; two sisters, Helen Freed of Telford, Pa., and Mary Beightol and her husband, Paul of Clearfield.

Mr. Adams was preceded in death by his parents; his loving wife, Avenell V. (Fleming) Adams, who died Jan. 3, 2012; one sister, Margaret Bender; and brother-in-law, Lester Freed.

Friends will be received from 4 p.m. – 7 p.m. Thursday and from 10 a.m. – 11 a.m. Friday at the Bennett & Houser Funeral Home Inc.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at the funeral home with the Rev. John White officiating.

Military honors will be accorded at the funeral home by the Clearfield Honor Guard. Burial will be in Bradford Cemetery.

The family suggest memorial contributions be made to the Kitchen of Care at the West Side United Methodist Church, 317 Nichols St., Clearfield, PA 16830 or the DuBois Nursing Home, 212 S. Eighth St., DuBois, PA 15801.

The family would like to thank the staff of the DuBois Nursing Home for their love, care and support of Mr. Adams over the past year.
