BOGGS TOWNSHIP – The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) is advising drivers that a detour will be in effect starting July 5, as replacement work begins for a Route 1002 (Marsh Creek Road) bridge in Centre County.
The work is expected to last through Aug. 26 and an official detour will be in place for the length of the project. The detour will direct drivers to use Route 4007 (Moose Run Road), Route 150, and Route 1001 (Howard Divide Road).
Starting July 5, crews will begin work to replace the open grate bridge with steel beams and a concrete deck. Replacing the bridge will take it off Centre County’s structurally deficient list.
The Boggs Township bridge spans a branch of Little Marsh Creek, two miles northeast of Yarnell. Originally built in 1980, the 19-foot bridge carries an average of almost 250 vehicles daily.
Employees of PennDOT Centre County Maintenance will remove the existing bridge and replace the structure with steel beams and a concrete deck. Crews from New Enterprise Stone and Lime Co. Inc. of New Enterprise, Pa., will install new guide rail, and pave. Value of the work is $104,218.00.
