“Lost In Space” has found a new home with Netflix. There’s been speculation for a while about a reboot of the popular 60s TV show, and now Netflix has ordered 10 episodes to premiere in 2018.
“The original series so deftly captured both drama and comedy, and that made it very appealing to a broad audience,” Cindy Holland, Netflix’s Vice President of Original Content said in a statement.
The sci-fi series, which ran for three seasons, was rebooted with a 1998 film starring Matt LeBlanc and Heather Graham. Netflix is hopeful that this classic show with memorable characters like Dr. Smith, Robot B-9 and Will Robinson and its famous catch phrase, “Danger, Will Robinson,” will resonate with audiences once again.
“The current creative team’s reimagining of the series for Netflix is sure to appeal to both fans who fondly remember the original and to a new generation of enthusiasts around the world,” Holland continued.
“Lost In Space” celebrated its 50th anniversary last year with a Blu-ray box set complete with all 83 episodes.
