First look at Tom Hanks as ‘Sully’

In the first trailer for the film “Sully,” star Tom Hanks says “Over 40 years in the air, but in the end I’m going to be judged on 208 seconds.”

Those almost four minutes on January 15, 2009, made history. That’s the day Chesley “Sully” Sullenberger successfully landed US Airways Flight 1549 in the Hudson River after it struck a gaggle of geese soon after takeoff.

Sullenberger was hailed as a hero for saving the lives of all 155 passengers and crew members, who were rescued from what became known as the “Miracle on the Hudson.”

But as the trailer for the new film shows, the pilot struggled with the aftermath of the event.

Hanks stars as Sullenberger. His performance is sure to draw talk of Oscar buzz, as much of his work does.

And let’s not forget that one of his most famous roles also involved surviving a plane crash. Hanks was nominated for an Academy Award for his role in the 2000 film “Cast Away.”

“Sully,” which also stars Laura Linney and Aaron Eckhart, opens in theaters September 9.
