WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Rep. Glenn ‘GT’ Thompson (PA-5) has announced the award of a $172,000 grant from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ Health Resources and Services Administration to the Pennsylvania Office of Rural Health, located on the University Park Campus of Penn State University.
The funding will be used to continue the Office of Rural Health’s mission of strengthening health care delivery systems for rural health care providers across the commonwealth.
“Nearly 30 percent of Pennsylvanian’s reside in rural areas, which are significant distances from metropolitan hospitals. Through programming, education, and outreach the Pennsylvania Office of Rural Health helps smaller communities, like those throughout the 5th Congressional District, continue providing access to quality health care” said Thompson.
The Pennsylvania Office of Rural Health was founded in 1991 and provides expertise in the areas of rural health, agricultural health and safety, and community and economic development. Its activities include education, outreach, advocacy and special projects focused on small rural hospitals.
