Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson is arguably already one of the most powerful people in the world — for proof, catch him flexing his way out of an arm cast in “Furious 7.”
But Johnson has recently started signaling that he may have his sights set on another big role: President of the United States. He’s even hinted that he may make a run some “possible day.”
The former wrestling-turned-movie-star has jokingly responded to playful nudges on the subject in the past, tweeting in response to a story from the Independent Journal: “Cool piece on why I should run for President. Maybe one day. Surely the White House has a spot for my pick up truck … ”
On Wednesday, “the most electrifying man in entertainment” upped the ante, linking to what he called an “interesting piece from The Washington Post on if I ran for POTUS I could actually win” in an Instagram post.
“Writer Alyssa Rosenberg did some pretty good research into my background (slave descendants fighting for their freedom, Revolutionary War etc). Much more to uncover but well done,” he wrote.
“More and more pieces like this are popping up due to the Presidential election and they’re cool/fun to read … I care DEEPLY about our county … and the idea of one day becoming President to create real positive impact and global change is very alluring,” he said in his post. “Buuuuut until that possible day, the most important thing right now is strong honest leadership from our current and future leaders of this country. Thanks again Washington Post.”
Johnson doesn’t have any political experience. But as we’ve seen in 2016, that isn’t necessarily a negative. And The Rock has shown flashes of his political game in the past, such as when he did a skit as “the Rock Obama” on Saturday Night Live last year.
It’s hard to know exactly how serious Johnson is. In the meantime, he’ll be busy as an executive producer on the upcoming CNN original series “Soundtracks,” coming next year.
