CLEARFIELD – A Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) roadway improvement job that got under way in March on Route 153 in Clearfield County is continuing with the installation of temporary traffic signals at the second of two bridge replacement sites. The first bridge structure replaced spanned over Wise Run.
PennDOT will replace the bridge that spans Anderson Creek with a new box culvert, which currently is a 12-foot concrete slab bridge that was built in 1935.
The temporary traffic signals will be installed June 23 and placed in “flash” mode before moving into full operation on June 28.
The temporary signals will enforce an alternating traffic pattern across the bridge as the new box culvert is constructed in half-widths. The bridge carries an average of more than 4,000 vehicles each day.
The overall project will improve roadway integrity through drainage and guide rail improvements, along with paving and replacement of two small structures.
Work will also include the addition of a northbound turn lane at Laurel Run Road. The work zone stretches along Route 153 from S. B. Elliot State Park to Parker Dam State Park.
PennDOT expects the project to be complete by mid-November, with all work weather and schedule dependent. Glen O. Hawbaker Inc. of State College is the contractor on this $3.8 million job.
Drivers are reminded to move through work zones with caution, watch for flaggers in the roadway, obey posted speed limits, and always buckle up.
