UPDATED: WJAC-TV: Two Die as Small Plane Crashes near University Park Airport

Update at 11:30 a.m.

UNIVERSITY PARK – The pilot and passenger were both pronounced dead at the scene, Centre County Coroner Scott Sayers said.

UNIVERSITY PARK – A private plane crashed at approximately 8:30 a.m. Thursday near the University Park Airport, according to officials.

Further, a two-engine Piper Navajo aircraft crashed in a wooded area near Barns Lane and Rock Road.

“A Piper PA 31 aircraft crashed one mile-east of University Park Airport in State College, Pa. at about 8:30 a.m. today,” the Federal Aviation Administration said in a statement.

“The aircraft departed from Washington County Airport in Washington, Pa.”

The FAA, which confirmed two people were on board the plane, and National Transportation Safety Board are working to determine the cause of the accident.

Another small plane crash-landed on the runway at the airport eight days ago. No injuries were reported.
