Winona Ryder keeps ‘Beetlejuice 2’ hopes alive

How long must we wait on a “Beetlejuice 2”?

There’s been talk of the eagerly awaited sequel for years and now star Winona Ryder is sounding as much in the dark about the plans as fans by saying “I don’t really know what’s going on with that.”

“Obviously, it was an iconic film,” the actress told Collider. “The only way it could really ever be done is with Tim [Burton] and Michael [Keaton].”

Director Burton told Collider in May that nothing was set in stone yet, but that he was interested in seeing the project happen, under the right circumstances.

“It’s not a kind of a movie that cries out [for a sequel], it’s not the Beetlejuice trilogy,” he said. “So it’s something that if the elements are right — because I do love the character and Michael’s amazing as that character, so yeah we’ll see.”

Ryder sounds down for it.

“There’s something that really resonates with all ages, with that film,” she said. “It’s interesting. I think it would be great if it happened, if it was the right circumstances.”
