Leona C. (Lee) Irvin, 87, of Philipsburg died Tuesday, June 14, 2016 at her residence.
Born Dec. 6, 1928 in Osceola Mills, she was a daughter of the late James and Mary (Magensky) Bagrosky.
Mrs. Irvin was a member of Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, Philipsburg, where she was also a former member of the Altar & Rosary Society.
She enjoyed gardening, was a voracious reader and relished her career in the nursing profession.
She was a 1945 graduate of the Osceola Mills High School and a 1970 graduate of the Bellefonte Vocational and Technical School, where she received her credentials as a licensed practical nurse.
She had worked for four years at the Benson Sanitarium in Philipsburg and after receiving her nursing training, she had worked for 20 years at the Philipsburg State General Hospital until retiring.
On June 18, 1949 in Osceola Mills, she married Thomas A. Irvin, who survives at home. They would have celebrated 67 years together this year.
In addition to her husband, Mrs. Irvin is survived by a daughter, Mary Jo Irvin-Pruitt of Anniston, Ala., and three sons, Thomas J. Irvin and his wife, Luanne and Alan J. Irvin and his wife, Denise, all of York, and Philip J. Irvin and his wife, Laurie of Naples, Fla.
She is also survived by eight grandchildren, Michael Irvin and his wife, Melissa of Milton, Ontario; Jeremy Irvin and Garrett Irvin, both of Naples, Fla.; Janelle Kessler and her husband, Brett of Bonita Springs, Fla.; Michael Rooney of Austin, Texas; Jonathan Irvin and his wife, Michelle of Jacksonville, Ala.; and Matthew Irvin and Maelee Irvin-Pruitt, both of Anniston, Ala.
She is also survived by five great-grandchildren, Callum and Ella Irvin of Milton, Ontario, Jade and Brielle Kessler of Bonita Springs, Fla., and Embry Irvin of Jacksonville, Ala.; a sister, Mae O’Neill of Bellefonte; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Irvin was preceded in death by two brothers, David and Al Bagrosky and a sister, Edwina T. O’Neill.
The funeral mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Friday, at the Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, Philipsburg, with the Rev. John M. Gibbons as celebrant. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery in Osceola Mills.
Friends will be received from 4 p.m. – 7 p.m. Thursday and from 9 a.m. – 10 a.m. Friday at the Beezer-Heath Funeral Home, Philipsburg.
A vigil service will be held at 4 p.m. followed by the rosary Thursday at the funeral home.
