Obituary Notice: William H. Shenkle

William H. Shenkle, 89, of DuBois died Sunday, May 22, 2016 at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center Presbyterian Hospital in Pittsburgh.

Born May 14, 1927, he was the son of the late John and Nellie (Pentz) Shenkle.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Marines Corp. during World War II.  After his service, he graduated from MIT and re-entered the military serving during the Korean War in the U.S. Air Force.

In 1952, he married Betty (Stewart) Shenkle.  She survives.

He retired from Rockwell International Manufacturing as the general manager of the DuBois plant after many years of service.

He was very involved in the DuBois area his entire life, serving on various boards and participating in many community activities.  To name a few, he was a past DuBois City councilman and member of First United Methodist Church.

He was also chairman of the committee that oversaw the merger of the DuBois and Maple Avenue Hospitals, forming the DuBois Regional Medical Center, where he served as a member of the board of directors.

He is survived by three children, Valerie Wetstone and her husband, Jeffrey of Columbia, Md., Jeffrey Shenkle of DuBois and Linda Tock of North Tonawanda, NY; two sisters, Carolyn McCain of Athens, Ala., and Patricia Fair and her husband, Ron of Brighton, Colo.; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Richard Shenkle and Courtney Shenkle and a sister, Betty Chaney.

Friends will be received from 2 p.m. – 4 p.m. and from 6 p.m. – 8 p.m. Thursday at the Goble-Baronick Funeral Home.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at the First United Methodist Church with Pastor Lance Tucker officiating. Burial will be in Morningside Cemetery.

Although flowers are appreciated, the family suggests that all memorials be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.
