As accusations against Woody Allen are back in the news, actress Susan Sarandon has reportedly weighed in about claims against the director.
According to Variety, the actress spoke out against Allen during Variety and Kering’s Women in Motion talk at which she appeared with “Thelma and Louise” co-star Geena Davis.
“I think he sexually assaulted a child and I don’t think that’s right,” Sarandon reportedly said when asked about Allen.
Allen opened the Cannes Film Festival with his latest film, “Cafe Society,” on the same day The Hollywood Reporter published an essay by his son, Ronan Farrow, headlined “My father, Woody Allen, and the danger of questions unasked.”
In it, Farrow writes about the media’s lenient treatment of his father in light of the accusations by Dylan, Ronan’s sister, that Allen molested her when she was a child. Allen has denied the allegations and has never been criminally charged in connection with the claims.
Talk about the scandal has been a big part of the film festival’s coverage. Allen, who in 2014 wrote about the accusations for the New York Times, told a group of reporters at Cannes that “I’ve said all I have to say about” the controversy.
Sarandon, who appeared on the red carpet of the Cannes premiere of Allen’s film, also said at the panel discussion she has “nothing good to say about (Allen).
“I don’t want to go there.”
