State Senate to Review Radar Bill, Says Bernardo

DUBOIS – The state Senate transportation committee will review the radar bill Tuesday morning, said DuBois City Councilwoman Diane Bernardo at last night’s meeting.

Bernardo encouraged the council to contact a list of individuals including state Senators John Wozniak and Joe Scarnati to get the radar bill out of the Pennsylvania State Senate committee and moved forward towards a full vote.

The bill, she explained, involves Pennsylvania municipal police officers being able to use radar guns for the purpose of speed limit enforcement. “Pennsylvania is the only state that does not allow its municipal officers to use radar,” said Bernardo.

Councilman Jim Aughenbaugh suggested that DuBois City start preparing funds for purchasing radar guns ahead of time.

Police Chief Ron LaRotonda indicated that he didn’t know the price yet, but he estimated $2,000 – $3,000 with a need for only a couple.

In other business, Aztec Linear of DuBois was awarded the contract for line painting. It was the only bidder at $34,026.00. Aztec Linear was the previous bid winner in 2014 at $28,784.00.

The council spoke glowingly of the Showers Field event Saturday and how much the City Classic Committee and both schools really worked together to make it possible.
