DUBOIS – The Greater DuBois Leadership Institute (GDLI) visited Harrisburg to meet with local legislators and learn more about government, issues within the state and to understand what they can do to help the local area as well as state.

Rep. Matt Gabler coordinated the events at the Pennsylvania Capitol with Jackie Syktich, president of DuBois Business College.  DuBois Business College volunteers coordinated and facilitated the GDLI program for the DuBois Area Chamber of Commerce.

The leaders arrived and completed a work session on leadership topics. Gabler joined the GDLI group and attended part of the training session.   They also took a State Capitol tour and then held meetings with local legislators.

Gabler, Rep. Tommy Sankey, Rep. Chris Dush, Rep. Donna Oberlander and Rep. Judy Ward each met with the GDLI leaders and discussed their role and some of the issues for the state and local areas.  The GDLI leaders were able to ask questions and discuss local and statewide concerns.

They also had the opportunity to meet with Jennifer Reis from the Pennsylvania State Chamber of Commerce, who explained the mission of the Chamber of Commerce, governmental affairs and how the Chamber can support and help businesses.

The group then met Kate Eckhart in Senator Scarnati’s office and gained knowledge of the Senate and the Pro Tempore role in the state.

To conclude the visit to Harrisburg, the Institute participated in a tour of the Governor’s Residence and an Agribusiness Tour of the Appalachian Brewing Company.
