S. Raymond “Dip” Mellott, 95, of Clearfield died peacefully Saturday, May 7, 2016 at the home of his daughter. He was the last of his generation.

Born April 20, 1921, he was a son of the late Stanley A. Mellott Sr. and Lela L. (Bailey) Mellott.

Mr. Mellott was a 1940 graduate of Clearfield High School, where he was wrestling district champion in 1939.

On April 11, 1942 in Clearfield, he married Dolores (Walters) Mellott.

He worked as a welding foreman for Clearfield Machine Shop for 43 years until his retirement in 1983.

Mr. Mellott was a veteran of the U.S. Navy serving in the South Pacific during World War II.

He was a life member of the Clearfield Fire Co. No. 2, the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers, the Masonic Lodge 314 and the American Legion Post No. 6 and VFW, and he was a former member of No. 40 and No. 8.

He enjoyed golfing, bicycling and most of all spending time with his family.

His survivors include a daughter, Barbara Giuffre and her husband, Donald of Clearfield; a son-in-law, Robert Glass Jr.; six grandchildren, Rick Glass and his wife, Rhonda, Rhanda R. (Glass) Charles and her husband, Dennis, Ryan J. Glass and his wife, Lynne, Michael R. Giuffre and his wife, Jennifer, Brandon Giuffre and his wife, Jennifer, and Justin Giuffre and his wife, Sonya; 10 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Dolores (Walters) Mellott, who died Oct. 25, 2006; his daughter, Billis Irene (Mellott) Glass, who died March 15, 2008; his two brothers, Jerry Mellott and Grey Mellott; his three sisters, Edythe (Mellott) Fink, Catherine (Mellott) Spence and an infant sister; and his granddaughter, Linda Giuffre, who died Sept. 27, 2014.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the St. John Lutheran Church, Clearfield, with the Rev. Robert Way officiating. Burial will be at Crown Crest Memorial Park, Hyde.

Friends will be received from 2 p.m. – 4 p.m. and from 7 p.m. – 9 p.m. Tuesday at Bennett & Houser Funeral Home Inc.

An additional hour of viewing will be held from 10 a.m. – 11 a.m. Wednesday at the St. John Lutheran Church.
