Alex Vezza, 65, of Clearfield, died Thursday, April 28, 2016. He was born June 2, 1950, a son of the late Frank and Mary (Macaluso) Vezza.

Mr. Vezza was employed his entire life as a math teacher, beginning at Bald Eagle Area School for his first nine years and then retiring from the Clearfield High School after 22 years.

During his teaching career at Bald Eagle Area, he served as an assistant football coach and as head track and field and cross country coach. After moving to Clearfield, he was the head coach for both track and field and cross country.

Mr. Vezza was a member of the St. Francis Catholic Church, Clearfield. He was also a member of the Benevolent and Protective Order of the Elks Lodge No. 540, Clearfield, and a life member and current officer of the Clearfield Sons and Daughters of Italy Due Palme Lodge No. 189.

He was an avid golfer, hunter and fisherman. He was also the “family chef” and enjoyed making homemade pasta and bread as well as mastering the art of wine-making and tasting.

Above all else, Mr. Vezza will be remembered most of his love and dedication as a husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend.

He is survived by his wife, Cindy (Henry) Vezza, to whom he was wed July 3, 1971, and three children, Matthew Vezza and his wife, Annie of Clearfield, Leigh Short and her husband, Gage of Walnut Creek, Calif., and Maggie Lingle and her husband, Tim of Lancaster.

Mr. Vezza is also survived by six grandchildren, Jeremiah Vezza, Ryder, Carly, Juel and Maren Short, and Talan Lingle; two brothers, Joseph ‘Jody’ Vezza and his wife, Amy of Clearfield and Tom Vezza and his wife, Carrie of State College; a niece, Erica Vezza; and two nephews, Andrew ‘Andy’ Vezza and Joshua ‘Josh’ Vezza.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be said at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the St. Francis Catholic Church, Clearfield, with Msgr. Henry L. Krebs as celebrant.

Friends will be received from 4 p.m. – 7 p.m. Tuesday and from 9 a.m. – 9:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Kevin A. Beardsley Funeral Home, Clearfield.
