BASEBALL
PRINCESS ANNE, Md. — Freshman pitcher-outfielder Thomas Summers (Clearfield) whacked his third home run for what proved to be the winning run in Maryland-Eastern Shore’s 7-6 non-league win over Lehigh at Hawk Field last Wednesday.
Summers had singled across the Hawks’ first run in the second inning.
He walked and scored in the 6-5 nightcap victory.
Summers was the Hawks’ designated hitter again Sunday and he had a hit in both Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference games against Delaware State, including an RBI single and a run scored in an 11-inning, 4-3 win.
Maryland-Eastern Shore was edged 4-2 in the second game, dropping to 5-12 in the MEAC and 12-26 overall.
Summers, who leads the Hawks in homers, is hitting .250 (19-for-76) with four doubles, 10 RBIs and 10 runs scored.
He has played in 27 games, 23 as a starter.

EAST STROUDSBURG — Redshirt freshman outfielder Curtis Collins (Clearfield) registered his second hit of the season in Mansfield’s 16-1 nightcap loss to East Stroudsburg Friday.
The Mounties fell 10-1 in the opener and then were swept at home, 14-1 and 4-3, by the nation’s No. 12-ranked team on Senior Day Saturday.
Collins came off the bench both Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference East Division doubleheaders and now has appeared in 15 games with a .250 batting average, one RBI and one stolen base.
The Mounties are 6-18 in the PSAC East and 18-24 overall.

ALTOONA — Sophomore infielder Jarrett Fulmer (Clearfield) raised his batting average to a season-high .216 with five hits in the last three games of Penn State Altoona’s two-day weekend road trip.
He had a pair of run-scoring singles in a 15-9 victory that gave the Lions a split against Medaille at McCarthy Park in Buffalo, N.Y., Saturday and followed up with three hits in their 17-5 and 10-5 losses to Pitt-Bradford Sunday.
Fulmer also had a single when the Lions split another Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference twinbill with Mount Aloysius at Peoples Natural Gas Field earlier in the week.
He is 16-for-74 with three doubles, nine RBIs and five runs scored in 28 games, including 23 starts for the Lions, 11-25 with a 4-10 AMCC record.

DUBOIS — Freshman catcher-third baseman Josh Sorbera (Clearfield) had only one hit but drew three walks and was hit by a pitch in four games for Penn State DuBois last week.
He also had a pair of stolen bases as the Lions bounced back from a 13-2 non-league loss to Clarion Thursday to edge Penn State Greater Allegheny 9-7 Friday and sweep Penn State Mont Alto 5-3 and 8-0 Sunday to move into first place in the Pennsylvania State University Athletic Conference at 14-3.
The Lions, 18-11 with three early week PSUAC games on the schedule, will host the PSUAC Playoffs at Showers Field this weekend. Games will get under way at 11 a.m. on Friday and 10 a.m. on Saturday with the championship game set for 11 a.m. on Sunday.

SOFTBALL
CLARION — The season ended on a disappointing note for sophomore pitcher-first baseman Rachel Hoffman (Clearfield) and her Clarion teammates with 4-0 and 11-0 Senior Day losses to Lock Haven at Memorial Field.
The right-hander was the losing hurler in the second game, working only 3-1/3 innings and surrendering 10 hits, three walks and all of the runs.
In another Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Central Division twinbill Thursday, Hoffman was tagged with a 10-9 loss at Mansfield after the hosts won the opener 4-1.
She went the distance and racked up seven strikeouts but issued six walks and allowed 10 hits.
Hoffman had three hits, drove in a run and scored two runs in that doubleheader.
Clarion finished 4-33 with a 1-19 PSAC-Central record.
Hoffman started in 34 of the 35 games she played and was the Golden Eagles’ fourth leading hitter at .250 (22-for-88). She led the team in doubles and was fourth in runs batted in with seven. She also scored five runs and stole two bases.
In the circle, Hoffman (2-13) registered both of Clarion’s early-season wins and topped the staff in appearances (19), starts (16), complete games (7), innings pitched (86) and strikeouts (56).
She gave up 115 hits, 44 walks and 105 runs for an earned run average of 6.84.
Redshirt freshman outfielder Tierra Shope (Curwensville) appeared in nine games, including three starts, and scored three runs.

WOMEN’S TRACK & FIELD
SLIPPERY ROCK — Clarion junior long jumper Jessica Shomo (Clearfield) placed eighth in her specialty at the Slippery Rock Open with a leap of 5.05 meters (16 feet, 6¾ inches) Thursday.
The event attracted 23 jumpers.

LEWISBURG — St. Francis Freshman Sarah Lash (Clearfield) established a new career record by hurling the javelin 38.87 meters (127 feet, 6 inches) to claim ninth place in the Bucknell Team Challenge Saturday.
Junior Rebecca Johnson (Curwensville) finished sixth in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a season-best time of 13:04.77.
St. Francis placed fourth in the eight-team event with 48.50 points.

MEN’S GOLF
BOLIVAR — Sophomore Jason Thorp (Curwensville) recorded a 42-41-83 over the Champion Lakes Golf Club to help Thiel to a fifth-place finish in the Doug Rogers Memorial hosted by St. Vincent College Saturday.
Thorp’s score was third best for the Tomcats, who posted a 327.
He tied for 26th overall in the 10-team tourney that had 51 entries.
