1. Campaign 2016
As far as sequels go, Super Tuesday IV was fairly standard: mildly exciting with a predictable ending. As expected The Donald romped last night, sweeping all five states and building an even bigger lead over the firm of Cruz & Kasich. On the Dems side, Hillz captured four of five states — also expected — so this race is basically over. Uncle Bernie will fight on to California, but even he knows he’s fallen too far behind in the delegate count. Here’s the night in 90 seconds and the five takeaways.
2. ISIS
How do you fight against an enemy that hides itself within the civilian population? Knock on the roof. The U.S. military said yesterday it’s adopted an Israeli battlefield tactic of exploding a missile above a building to warn civilians it’s about to be bombed. The so-called knock-on-the-roof operations have been used in Gaza by Israel in recent years. Not everyone thinks it’s a good idea though.
3. Apple
It was bound to happen sometime, but it’s still a shock: iPhone sales tanked for the first time last quarter. And since iPhone sales are more than two-thirds of Apple’s revenue, the tech giant’s sales and profit both fell as well. Add in the fact that demand for iPads and Macs is weak, and you get the feeling that the party may be over for Apple. “We had a very busy and challenging quarter,” said Tim Cook, Apple CEO and a master of understatement.
4. Weather
Tornado Alley lived up to its name yesterday, as five twisters popped up in Texas, Indiana, Kansas and Missouri. And possibly another tornado ripped through a small, Oklahoma town, but the National Weather Service hasn’t confirmed that. But it wasn’t just tornadoes that were the problem. A flash flood warning is in effect for parts of Kansas City and there’s hundreds of reports of hail-related damage in the region. We’ll probably learn the full extent of the damage when day breaks today.
5. Prince
Well, this could complicate things. Prince didn’t leave behind a will, his sister says. And he wasn’t married or have any living parents or kids. Some estimates say he’s worth $300 million (More, if you consider the way his records sales are soaring again – 16 THOUSAND PERCENT?!!). So yesterday, his sister, Tyka Nelson, requested a special administrator to deal with all of this.
