The White House was in a short lockdown Tuesday after a male suspect — whom authorities say was attempting to flee after committing a robbery nearby — jumped a fence near the presidential mansion.
A law enforcement source told CNN that the suspect committed a robbery at 17th and G Street NW. He was then spotted by a uniformed division officer who began to pursue him on foot. The suspect then jumped over the fence at the Eisenhower Executive Office building that is next door to the White House.
Secret Service said he was subsequently taken into custody without incident.
DC Fire and EMS tweeted that they were on the scene and that the suspect was being transported to a nearby hospital for evaluation and that he may have a minor hand injury.
Authorities did not provide further details, including the name and age of the suspect.
President Barack Obama was at the White House at the time of the incident.
Fence-jumpers have become a somewhat frequent occurrence near the White House. Earlier this month, an individual was charged with unlawful entry after throwing a backpack over the North Lawn fence before jumping over himself.
