Phyllis J. Nelson, 91, of DuBois died Tuesday, April 19, 2016 at her residence.

Born Dec. 8, 1924 in Beechwoods, she was a daughter of the late Edward L. Snyder and Nora B. (Swartslander) Snyder.

She graduated from Beechwoods High School in 1942. She attended DuBois Business College.

She worked for Woolworth’s 5 & 10 for 15 years. She also co-owned and worked for Nelson Furs with her husband until her retirement.

On Jan. 18, 1948, she was united in marriage to Lee P. Nelson in the First Presbyterian Church in DuBois by the Rev. Howard E. Tucker.

She was a member of the First United Presbyterian Church in DuBois, where she taught Sunday school for many years. This included the children and the Berean Bible Class, which she taught for 42 years.

She was a member of Presbyterian Women, where she served as treasurer for many years. She also belonged to White Shrine of Jerusalem in Grove City and The order of the Amaranth in Huntingdon.

She enjoyed her family, watching the Pirates and Steelers, golf matches, crocheting, doing crossword puzzles, helping others and with church activities.

She is survived by her husband, Lee; her daughter, Amy J. Sprague and her husband, Paul of DuBois; and one grandson, Ryan M. Sprague of DuBois.

She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

She was the last survivor of her immediate family, being preceded in death by three brothers and four sisters.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the First United Presbyterian Church, 43 W. Scribner Ave., DuBois, with the Rev. Sarah E. Sedgwick and the Rev. Alfred Wilson officiating.

Burial will be at Beechwoods Cemetery.

Friends will be received from 2 p.m. – 4 p.m. and from 6 p.m. – 8 p.m. Friday at the Mohney-Yargar Funeral Chapel Inc.
