Anthony J. Flango, 87, died Wednesday, April 20, 2016 at Walton Heights, Altoona
Born Aug. 3, 1928 in Houtzdale, he was the son of Henry and Nicolette (Yacobucci Satyrano) Flango.
He was a member of Christ the King Catholic Church in Houtzdale.
Mr. Flango served with U.S. Army 291st Engineer Heavy Equipment Co. in Germany during the Korean War.
He enjoyed the outdoors and was an avid hunter and fisherman.
He was a partner of Flango Brothers Coal Co. and Flango Motors Inc., both of Houtzdale. He owned and operated Cougar Contracting Inc. of Houtzdale.
On Oct. 24, 1953 he married Dolly Marie Dufour, who survives in Altoona.
He is survived by children, Barbara (Russell) Morroni of Smithmill, Carol Flango of Altoona, Anthony (Shelley) Flango Jr., Larry (Melissa) Flango and Shirley (Scott) Gulish, all of Houtzdale, and Greg (Tonya) Flango of Brisbin.
Also surviving are grandchildren, Tana Rae Flango, Scott Gulish, Sean Gulish, Chantel Flango, Brittany Flango, Jordan Flango and Bayla Flango; step-grandchildren, Chris Morroni, Mark Graham Jr., and Morgan Reader; and four great-grandchildren.
Mr. Flango was the last surviving member of his family. He was preceded in death by his parents; five sisters, Emma Youhon, Annie Gigliotti, Pierina Caserta, Mary Monaco and Elizabeth Flango; and five brothers, Victor, Salvatore, William, Orland and Michael.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Monday with Father William Laska as celebrant.
Friends will be received from 2 p.m. – 4 p.m. and from 7 p.m. – 9 p.m. Sunday at the Birger A. Freeberg Funeral Home Inc., Houtzdale. Burial will follow in the St Lawrence Cemetery, Houtzdale.
