PHILIPSBURG – The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) will begin replacement work Friday, April 22, on a Philipsburg bridge on Route 3034 (Loch Lomond Road).
As work begins, the bridge and road will be closed and a detour will be in place.
The 45-foot bridge dates from 1928, spans Cold Stream, and carries an average of more than 2,500 vehicles each day. Replacing the bridge will remove it from Centre County’s structurally deficient list and provide area drivers with a new, modern structure.
The signed detour will direct drivers to use Route 504 (One Mile Road), Township Road 951 (Medical Center Drive), and Township Road 804 (Loch Lomond Road). The detour will be in place for the length of the project time-frame.
Overall work will include demolition of the current bridge, construction of a new concrete box beam structure, new approaches, sewer line relocation, pavement markings, and miscellaneous items. PennDOT expects the new bridge to be open to traffic by late August.
Francis J. Palo Inc. of Clarion is the contractor on this $1.3 million project.
Drivers are reminded to follow official detour signs, obey posted speed limits, and always buckle up.
