Bison Track Teams Sweep Central, PO

HYDE — The Clearfield Area High School Track and Field teams both earned sweeps at home for the second tri-meet in a row on Tuesday afternoon.

The boys team upped their record to 6-1 with a close 79-67 win over Central and an easier 96-54 victory over Philipsburg-Osceola.

The girls team climbed to 5-2 overall with a tight win over Central, 80-69, and added a 96-49 win over PO.

Matt Collins led the boys team with three individual wins in the discus, javelin, and shot put; and Rachel Glenny led the girls with three individual wins as well in the 100 and 300 meter hurdles, and the 200 meter dash. She also was on the winning 4×400 relay team.

Bison head coach summarized the meets with,”Last night the boys distance and throws helped us pull out a close victory against Central.  The distance squad of Kyle Biancuzzo, Ryan Chew, Jeremiah Vezza, Aaron Aycock and Peyton Priester, were able to get the top two places and sweep some of the distance events. Those performances helped us get back some points we that we had lost to Central in the relays and sprints.  Not to be outdone were the throwers working their magic over in the field.  Matt Collins had a personal best throw of 159′ 2″ in the discus and was able to pick up two key victories in the shot and javelin.  Grady Yarger, Levi Luzier and Andrew Josephson had some nice throws to pick up key seconds and thirds, which definitely gave us the edge to pull out the victory over Central. Dave McKenzie had a great night in the High Jump tying a personal best jump a 6′ 2″ and almost cleared 6-4, which would have tied the school record.   The boys’ team is starting to peak at just the right time heading into the Championship  portion of our schedule.  We are really excited to see how they perform as the competition level goes up.

“For the girls it was a team effort that pulled out two team victories.  Rachel Glenny led the way winning four events for us.  While her teammates Raquel Grice, Macy Forrest, Katrina Spencer, Jaclyn Freeman, Madison Jones, Ashley Struble, Mikayle Rebo , and Denise Stephens  won 12 of the 18 events on the night. Underclassmen Rachel Flemming, Katrina Spencer and Nikol Chew made a huge impact in their individual events and relays.”

The Bison and Lady Bison will head to the LHU Invitational this weekend and then will host the Mountain League Championship on Wednesday April 27.
