Priebus says he’d prefer GOP nominee run against Clinton than Sanders

Republican National Committee Chairman Reince Priebus said Friday he would prefer the GOP nominee run against Hillary Clinton than Bernie Sanders.

“I’d rather run against Hillary Clinton because she’s defined, she’s not liked, and in a popular cultural vote in America, that’s a really important question, and she doesn’t do well with that question,” Priebus told CNN’s Wolf Blitzer.

“I don’t know what is going to happen with the FBI. So put her unpopularity together with another unknown that could make it harder for her — I would rather run against Hillary Clinton,” Priebus said on “Wolf,” citing the ongoing investigation into Clinton’s private email server that she used while she was secretary of state.

Priebus claimed Clinton’s popularity would be a liability in a general election campaign.

“I think anybody who’s analyzed this knows that Hillary Clinton is in the ditch. We don’t know how far into the ditch she is going to go, but she’s not doing well, she’s not even winning. She’s lost seven out of eight contests,” he said.

Despite Clinton having a million more votes than GOP front-runner Donald Trump — and a recent CNN/ORC poll that found 56% of voters think Clinton would beat Trump in a head-to-head match-up — Priebus said he is confident his party’s standard-bearer would come out on top.

“I don’t really fear either of them. I think after eight years of (President Barack) Obama, this is our year,” he said.
