DUBOIS – On Monday night, members of the DuBois City Council voted to approve all three recommendations by the city planning commission regarding the Reitz Theater, located on East Scribner Avenue, DuBois.
According to City Solicitor Toni Cherry, representatives from the Reitz Theater have plans for a nearby property. It is owned by the theater but currently has a house standing on it, she said.
The process, Cherry said, involved three stages, and the first was to ensure the property wasn’t zoned as residential. She said they found that it wasn’t after reviewing zoning maps.
The three recommendations from the city planning commission were regarding plans for off-site parking. Other plans also included consolidating the two properties and proceeding with development, she said.
According to Cherry, preliminary plans for a project on West Park and West Scriber avenues were denied due to several flaws. It was noted that no one was present to discuss and possibly resolve the issues with members of the city planning commission.
These flaws, she said, included flood plain concerns, ownership conflicts over some properties and some plans being drawn in crayon. Council members agreed with the city planning commission’s decision to deny the preliminary plans.
