Police in Austin are investigating the case of a body found in a creek on the University of Texas campus as a possible homicide, officials said Tuesday.
University President Gregory L. Fenves said the body was found near the Etter-Harbin Alumni Center and not far from the school’s football stadium.
Campus and city police are looking into the death of the person, who authorities have not identified. Fenves said the deceased person’s family hasn’t been notified.
The school is working with police to identify possible suspects, Fenves said.
“Based on the information we have and our conversations with police, the campus continues to operate fully, and all classes and events remain on schedule,” Fenves said in a written statement.
CNN affiliate KXAN reported that emergency workers responded Tuesday morning to a 911 call about the body.
University officials said counseling services are available for students.
