April Programs Announced at Parker Dam

PENFIELD – Staff members at the Parker Dam State Park have announced the programs to be held in April.

Saturday, April 2

Morning Ride Along

10:30 a.m. – outside Park Office

Bring your bicycle for a ride down the CCC Trail as we discuss the events that led to the park’s current state.  On the way back, we’ll ride up Mud Run Road and discuss major events and activities that occur at the park each year.  The CCC Trail is over easy terrain that is best suited for mountain bikes.  Be sure to wear appropriate shoes and clothing and to bring along water.  Children under 12 must wear a helmet.

Woodcock Watch

7:45 p.m. – Tyler Cabin Area

Join your woodcock watch guide at the tornado display in front of the Tyler Cabin (Cabin Classroom) to witness the annual spring mating display flights of the Timber-doodle.  Learn how you can get close and observe the turkey-like strut of the male woodcock.  Dress for the weather.

Friday, April 8

Welcome Fire and S’mores:

7 p.m. – Campground Amphitheater

Come one, come all!  Join us in starting off the 2016 camping season with the opening campfire program.  Leave your matches at home as we learn how to start a fire without them, followed by a brief history of our favorite campfire treat and s’mores making.  Comradery, warmth, and treats will be there to greet you.

Saturday, April 9

Traveling Minstrels

Every year, during spring arrivals, we are presented with nature’s music as our feathered friends make their journey back north.  Take a moment this evening to enjoy this film as we learn all about these splendid migratory species.
