Police on Thursday said there was no evidence that a sexual assault occurred outside a Donald Trump rally this week in Wisconsin — but they are still looking for a man who pepper-sprayed a teenage girl.
At a news conference Thursday afternoon, Janesville, Wisconsin, police revised their earlier statements this week saying that the 15-year-old girl was also groped in the lead-up to the spraying incident.
There was no evidence of sexual assault at the Tuesday event, Janesville Police Chief David Moore said, but police are still looking for a man in a red “Make America Great Again” cap in connection with the incident, whose picture they released on Wednesday.
A 19-year-old woman was also hit by the pepper spray.
A video of the incident shows a verbal altercation between the girl and a man, in which the teen alleges the man touched her breast and he denies it. She then punched the man in the face, after which a separate, unknown man pepper-sprayed the girl.
“We have referred to juvenile authorities the 15-year-old female for disorderly conduct charges,” Moore said, adding that because the man did not pursue charges she was not charged with assault.
