Voters in Arizona and Utah might hear a familiar voice on the other end of the phone this week, “Hello, this is Mitt Romney.”
Ahead of Tuesday’s Arizona primary and Utah caucuses, the 2012 Republican presidential nominee has recorded robocalls on behalf of Ted Cruz, whom he plans to vote for in Utah.
In the call, Romney urges Republican to unify against Donald Trump.
“This is a time for Republicans across the spectrum to unite behind Ted. He is the only Republican candidate who can defeat Donald Trump,” the former Massachusetts governor says in the calls, which were first reported by the Daily Caller.
Romney, who campaigned for John Kasich in Ohio last Monday, stressed that, “at this point, a vote for John Kasich is a vote for Donald Trump.”
Kasich’s campaign is running ads in Utah featuring video of Romney’s appearance on his behalf.
Romney praised Cruz in the calls as someone who has spent his life defending the Constitution and the Bill of Rights, will fight to bring back jobs and raise wages, and will be a strong commander-in-chief.
“I’ll be voting for Ted Cruz this Tuesday and I’d encourage you to do the same thing,” he said.
