George T. Piedmo of Morrisdale died March 15, 2016 at the age of 87. He was born Dec. 16, 1928 at Glasgow, a son of George J. and Caroline (Thomas) Piedmo.

On Nov. 25, 1950, he married Doris Henry, the daughter of Merlin and Hazel Henry, Philipsburg. He graduated from Morris Township High School in the class of 1946.

Mr. Piedmo’s adult work began in deep coal mining with his father. He attended Pennsylvania State University and majored in horticulture.

He served in the U.S. 101st Airborne Artillery. Then, he was a salesman for Swift & Company and Cooks Frozen Foods.

Opportunity arose to acquire Centre Beverage Malt Sales in State College at the site of the Tavern Restaurant.

Business growth forced moving to a new location on Sparks Street, where he operated for 45 years as chief executive officer and president and established one of the premier distributors in the area.

Mr. Piedmo was a member of the St. Agnes Church in Morrisdale.

He was a member of the Knights of Columbus No. 2250 of Osceola Mills and a life member of the Philipsburg Elks Country Club No. 1173.

He was an active member of the Morris Township Water Company.

In retirement, he traveled much with his family. His passion was in the love of machinery, motorcycles and cars. He was constant in his property improvements, and he also enjoyed giving time helping his neighbors.

His hope, young in life, was to keep his family property beautiful, and one of his sayings was, “Some people do paintings … I make a picture happen.” Anyone who knew him would know, “If I was any better, I couldn’t stand it.”

He is survived by his wife at home; his son, Gregory Piedmo (China); his daughter, Dana (John) Campolongo; and two grandchildren, Tyler Campolongo and Lauren Campolongo of State College.

He is survived by his brother-in-law, John (Donna) Henry of Philipsburg; two sisters, Barbara (David) Barnes of Mansfield, Ohio and Connie (Doane) Chase of McMurraysville; and many nieces of nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Gary L. Piedmo, Esq.

Friends will be received from 4 p.m. – 6 p.m. Sunday at the Strange & Weaver Funeral Home of Morrisdale.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at the St. Agnes Catholic Church, Morrisdale, with the Father Robert J. Horgas as celebrant. A reception will follow mass at the St. Agnes Activity Center.

Memorials may be made to the St. Agnes Church, Philipsburg Holt Library and the Rowland Theatre.
