IRVONA – The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) will begin a bridge replacement job next week on Route 53 in Beccaria Township, Clearfield County.
Replacing the bridge will remove it from Clearfield County’s structurally deficient list and provide drivers with the use of a new structure. The bridge spans a branch of Clearfield Creek on Route 53 about a mile north of the village of Irvona.
On Wednesday temporary signals will be in flash mode at the job site and then be in full operation March 22, as construction work begins. The temporary signals will enforce an alternating traffic pattern across the bridge as half-width construction takes place on the replacement.
Overall work will include removal of the current bridge, construction of a new box culvert, new tie-ins, paint, paving and miscellaneous items. PennDOT expects the new bridge to be complete in early September. The bridge carries an average of more than 1,400 vehicles daily.
Francis J. Palo Construction of Clarion is the contractor on this $1 million project.
Drivers are reminded to move through work zones with caution, obey posted speed limits and always buckle up.
