DUBOIS – Sydney Spencer and Shayleigh Gulvas, members of the eighth-grade class at DuBois Central Catholic Middle School, work as a team to program their robot to carry out a given task while the team of Zachary George and Parker Meholick do the same.

Using “Lego Mindstorm Robotics,” these teams of middle school students were challenged to program their robot to travel through traffic lights.

Each time the robot detected red, it would stop and wait ‘to see green’ before moving forward.

Course instructor, Angela Edwards, says, “The students utilized motors for movement and sensors to detect the robot’s environment in order to react.”

She adds, “It’s not just about programming, it’s about problem solving, trouble shooting and strengthening their analytical skills.”
