Marco Rubio’s presidential campaign is rolling out a new national advisory council that includes names from the George W. Bush administration as well as from Jeb Bush’s camp, the Florida senator’s team confirmed Monday.
First reported by Bloomberg, the council reflects a union of support from well-known experts and officials on foreign policy and is designed to bolster Rubio’s national security credentials as he seeks to push forward in his struggling bid for president.
His advisers include former Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff, who also advised and campaigned with former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush, as well as other ex-Jeb Bush advisers, like former Undersecretary of Defense Dov Zakheim, former State Department official Paula Dobriansky and Ambassador to the European Union Kristen Silverberg.
Former Sen. Jim Talent, who advised Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker’s presidential campaign, is also part of Rubio’s team. So is Elliott Abrams, who served in the administrations of George W. Bush and Ronald Reagan.
Many of the names on Rubio’s council signed a list of opposition last week to Donald Trump’s candidacy because of what they considered the billionaire businessman’s brash foreign policy.
